Marrickville was already cool, with its industrial chic vibes, boutique breweries and distilleries. But it’s set to get even cooler.

The Inner West Council announced today that the Sydney Portugal Community Club has been approved as a festival destination.

This means the club has been approved to host five large-scale outdoor events (with a capacity of up to 5000 people) and 10 smaller events with up to 3500 people. These events can include outdoor stages and pop-up food stalls and bars.

Inner West Mayor Darcy Byrne said in a statement, “We’re determined to keep building the Inner West as the heart and soul of Sydney’s live music and entertainment scene. Now, the Portugal Community Club will be an exciting part of that future.

“This club is a treasured institution in Marrickville that celebrates the richness of Portuguese culture, food and sport. With this approval, they can now share that with a much wider audience and continue to make Marrickville one of Australia’s most diverse and vibrant suburbs.”

The club has its own Portuguese restaurant and bar, five-a-side football pitches, and event spaces.

Club director Paul Goncalves said in the same statement, “This approval by Inner West Council means we can now hold some great events that will become high points of Marrickville’s vibrant cultural life for years to come.”

The club is centrally located just 400 metres from the Sydenham metro and train stations.

Stay tuned for more details about the festivals.
