The Annandale Sewer Epidemic is Finally Over

A burst wastewater pipe in Sydney's inner-west has caused a sense of unease for residents. Why? It stinks.

Posters have been sighted in surrounding suburbs highlighting the local’s discomfort, and serving as a warning to others.

If you follow the stench, it takes you to Johnstons Creek, which runs under Parramatta Road to Rozelle Bay, spilling out into Sydney Harbour.

According to Sydney Morning Herald, Sydney Water has since apologised for “any odours, which have occurred due to containment of the sewage and stormwater flow.” The company has addressed the issue, promising overnight repairs will take place in the near future to make sure the incident doesn’t occur again.

In the meantime, Sydney Water has placed an electric pump and sandbags at Booth Street to contain any excess leaking.
