Features
Ever wanted, no, needed, a bottle of Veuve with your delivery of pepperoni pizza? How about a biodynamic Hunter Valley merlot paired with a vegan-cheese pizza? A sixpack of Young Henrys tinnies to chase down spice-rubbed chilli wings?
A food-and-liquor-delivery licence is rare in NSW but The New Britannia, a bar in Chippendale’s heritage-listed Britannia building, has one. Angry Tony’s, The New Britannia’s in-house, New York-style pizzeria, can deliver booze before 10pm to anywhere between Newtown, Glebe and Darlinghurst.
The drinks range from standard sixpacks of cider and beer, to 700-millilitre bottles of spirits and a small-but-sharp list of predominantly biodynamic and natural Australian wines. You can even order a pack of smokes.
The Foul Play is a chicken-pesto pizza with zucchini, red onion and rocket. The Please to Meat You is a beef, bacon and spicy-sausage barbeque pizza topped with mozzarella. Salads, chilli wings and pastas round out the menu. Vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free pizza bases and pastas are available as well.
If you dine in you’ll find The New Britannia has kept things simple. There’s a hardwood timber bar at the back of the single, warmly lit olive-green room adorned with exposed lights, wall plants and vines.
