Opposite a row of locomotive and smash repair shops, Foli bakery is an unlikely addition to Campsie’s industrial area. But that’s all part of this boutique bakery’s charm. With a clean, pared-back fit-out, and drinks served in handmade Japanese ceramics, it’s the kind of place you’d easily find in Tokyo or Seoul.
Ditto the pastries in the glass cabinet: lemon madeleines, carrot cake topped with whirls of whipped cardamom cream cheese, and slabs focaccia studded with mushrooms. The specialty here, though, is shio pan, or Japanese salt bread. Order one with St Ali’s Orthodox blend, seasonal juice or matcha to complete your morning ritual.
