Lifestyle brands venturing into the hospitality game is usually a cause for concern. Deus cafe, which is connected to the Aussie brand’s sprawling inner west showroom, is an exception to the rule.
It’s one of the most photogenic venues in the area; a cavernous industrial joint that flows into the brand’s retail space – The House of Simple Pleasures – next door. Framed Australiana and automotive paraphernalia decks the walls, and you can be sure some of the clientele punctuating the communal tables has probably rolled here on two wheels.
Japanese and Korean influences run through the seasonal menu, from triple cheese kimchi toasties to curry bowls. You’ll also might find a killer brekkie roll with a hash brown served on the side. Plus, considered veg options like a miso pumpkin salad, and an eggplant sanga on a Thoroughbread baguette.
Any big ride calls for caffeine, and Deus takes its coffee seriously. The Barista’s Breakfast – powered by Coffee Supreme – involves a shot of espresso, a latte and the day’s batch brew. But if you’ve just pulled in after a day on the road, there are local beers on tap and cocktails on hand.
You can also hit the cafe’s own corner store on the way out – it’s stocked with beers and natty wines, treats from Clovelly’s Tuga Pastries, and pantry items used in the cafe’s kitchen.
