Features
Felicity Peel’s compact Ashfield bakery, Tart Sisters, has been running for decades. She’s never compromised on ingredients, and will often make use of home-grown produce donated by locals. These wind up in sweet and savoury treats – perhaps raspberry and almond tarts or a roast-tomato galette. Peel makes pies, too, with flaky crusts encasing cauliflower and cheddar, or mushroom and gravy. An assortment of beautiful cakes fill the display, from carrot and walnut, to fruity slices like peach and raspberry, and a truly excellent chocolate cake. The fit-out isn’t fancy (the only seating is a yellow bench out front) letting the laden front counter – with sweets on top of and under glass – do the heavy lifting.
