If you happen to be stranded on an island, or Sydney’s lower North Shore, perhaps the first thing in order is a simple, well-crafted meal. Set away from Mosman’s boutiques, delicatessens and specialty stores is the very newly opened Stranded Gourmet – a quiet sanctuary housing local Bay Roasters coffee and a neat menu.

Stranded lies at the end of a narrow brick passageway. There you’ll find a leafy courtyard and fully armed coffee kiosk. The open-air space sweeps seamlessly into a kitchen and indoor dining nook with window view towards the harbour. For breakfast, fill up on buttermilk pancakes with banana, organic yoghurt and maple syrup. Or try confit eggs: slow cooked eggs, black olives, sausage and toast. For lunch there is gourmet pies, toasted sandwiches, pasta with chorizo and a Stranded-style bánh mì (Vietnamese roll), and dinner is now offered from Thursday to Saturday. To drink, refresh with a bottle of Botanica’s artisan cold-pressed green juice. A retail wall features truffle oils, Mediterranean sea salts, coffee beans and teas.
