Features
Smalltown is a roomy cafe hidden away from the main drag in Avalon. Serving coffee by Single Origin Roasters, it does a booming trade from the busy coffee counter by the front door. In addition to carefully crafted espressos, you’ll find rotating filters of the week as cold drip or V60 pour over, a range of locally cold pressed juices and shakes that include a decadent salted caramel.
But it’s the brunch menu that entices diners to stay a while. There's banana bread; a bacon and egg roll with two fried eggs; and buckwheat waffles with peanut butter ice-cream. There are lunch-leaning dishes, too. Whole trout fillet and pulled-pork buns, as well as toasted sandwiches of the day that might be roast beef with pickled carrot, or eggplant steak with wild mushroom.
Grab a spot under the macramé pot hangers in front of the eye-catching black-and-white feature wall and work your way through a stack of these fluffy, fried and glazed treats.
