Mortdale local Dani Sheriff was keen to bring all the things she loved about Sydney’s cafe scene to her home suburb of Mortdale, so when she came across the right space she jumped at the opportunity to put her plans into action and opened Short Black Panther.

The local community is certainly relieved; Short Black Panther brings some much-needed fresh blood to Pitt Street.

Sheriff and a select team did the green and white interior of the cafe themselves, keeping a lot of the original structure of the space. Sheriff first noticed it, with its deco windows, when she walked past one day and noticed the abandoned space had a kitchen.

The details of the cafe are worth noticing, from the children’s story-book covers on the menus and Sheriff’s own, home baking (with mum’s help) to the 5 Senses Crompton Road Blend coffee.

You will find bacon, cheese and tomato muffins on the list, mum’s date slice, wraps made to order, panther burgers, coconut-lime muffins and peanut butter chocolate cake. There is also filter coffee of the week in addition to the espresso choices.
