Scout's Honour

Scout’s Honour sits amid a number of forgotten fruit and vegetable stores. Named for Harper Lee’s tomboy heroine, Scout Finch, it salutes original owner Georgia Woodyard’s (who's since moved on) time spent as a scout in her hometown of Mitchell, NSW.

Just like a scout’s honour, the space is bright and honest – featuring a neat menu of stacked sandwiches, simple staples and sweets all served from a street facing white-tiled counter.

A trim hideaway cafe sits toward the back of the space, with high benches for four and a long communal table. Edison bulbs hover above the bar, while hanging forest ferns and large baskets of citrus add spurs of green to clean white walls.

Lunch is the focus at Scout’s – sandwiches in particular. Piled tall with the thickest cut bread, there are always at least five to try, ranging from the beef brisket with zucchini pickles and fennel on Brickfields sourdough, to salami with eggplant and provolone. The Scout Salad is a seasonal mix, featuring fresh herbs, nuts, seeds and vegetables.

You’ll also find Five Senses espresso, milkshakes and fresh juices, as well as a set of pre-lunch options such as muesli, a breakfast plate and a breakfast sandwich.
