Quick Brown Fox Eatery
Set within a heritage-listed, 1840s-built stone cottage in leafy Pyrmont, Quick Brown Fox Eatery is one Sydney’s most impressive – and constantly evolving – cafes. Its most recent evolution came in 2022 with refreshed interiors and the installation of head chef Daniel Grey, who draws on his experience working in top Sydney venues such as Aalia, The Apollo and ground-breaking Sydney cafe, Devon.
Mainstays on the breakfast menu include a show-stopping koshihikari (premium short-grain rice) congee challenging morning-meal expectations in the best way. It comes with a 63-degree egg, glazed speck, fried shallots and house-made XO. You might also order lemon ricotta hotcakes, and spicy folded eggs with blue swimmer crab and XO chilli oil on sourdough.
For lunch menu, there are bowls of roast chicken, roast carrot, sweet potato, chickpeas and carrot-top pesto; a classic Angus cheeseburger; and a current take on the eatery’s long-standing favourite, a Buffalo Ricotta Gnudi with smoked tomato, macadamia and herb butter.
This is backed up with quality suppliers such as Tea Craft teas, Mork chocolate, Kombu Kombucha, bread from Brickfields in Chippendale and coffee by Gabriel. There’s also a solid list of new-wave wines, spritzes and signature cocktails for lengthy weekend lunches and QBF’s After Hours sessions, which runs from Thursday to Saturday during summer. Come for those, plus upbeat tunes and Mediterranean-style snacks such as anchovy toast with fermented chilli mayo and chives; and burrata with charred asparagus and bottarga.
