You can’t do much better than Queens Court for location. The historic building sits proudly on Woollahra’s Queen and Moncur Street junction and is the centrepiece of the surrounding shopping village. So Luxe founder Jonathan Harvey jumped at the opportunity to secure a space for the fourth incarnation of his artisan bakery chain here.

This Woollahra site is a flagship of sorts, joining two venues in Bondi Junction, a bakery cafe in Newtown and a wholesale bakery in Moore Park. Seating spills out from the interior with its marble features into the famous Queens Court courtyard, where the brightly coloured tables are set underneath a purpose-built awning. The space can be booked for private events and functions and bar and dinner services are also available.

The menu delivers a balanced approach to each meal, with a focus on health-conscious options such as gluten-free, lactose-free and low-sugar offerings. The daily salad bar has proved popular with its simple, modern pairings such as quinoa, kale and cauliflower with heirloom tomatoes. Luxe’s artisan breads are the heroes of the outfit. They are served in tartines at lunchtime and at Sunday brunch, covered in chive-strewn scrambled eggs. An expanded dessert menu including ice-cream sandwiches sits alongside Luxe’s famous pastry selection – from lemon-curd tarts to sugar-dusted almond croissants.
