Entering Joe Black is like walking into a friend’s place – a friend who has excellent taste in coffee and is quite the whiz in the kitchen.

The short but sweet menu covers all bases, from granola and poached eggs to pikelets dressed up with fruit, a smearing of jam and ricotta.

Joe Black is the work of Ben Sweeten (ex-Proud Mary in Melbourne). He was keen to bring elements of Melbourne’s coffee culture to Sydney and take Sydneysiders’ espresso experience to the next level.

The Synesso sitting proudly on top of the counter alongside an impressive looking filter bar shows just how serious Joe Black is about coffee. With Five Senses and single origins on offer, this place will broaden your espresso horizons. Let Joe Black show you the difference between the sweet floral Brazilian Sertaozinho and the savoury Sumatra Lintong.

Small and subtle features all come together to add to the charm at Joe Black, and work to create a cosy atmosphere with the evolution and man coffee feature wall, enamel camping cutlery and crockery, a 1920s fire extinguisher and a cabinet Sweeten crafted himself from off-cuts.
