The General Eatery & Supplies
Dave Moran and Josh McPhee met when they worked together at Jonah’s at Whale Beach. With their years of industry knowledge and skill, the duo has opened shop in a once-butchery in Dulwich Hill.
There’s a communal air about the space, from the corner-store-style produce shelves to the Oregon timber built-in wine cellar.
Breakfast is full of quick items alongside locally baked pastries. The bread is courtesy of The Bread & Butter Project, coffee is by Single Origin Roasters and it is brewing Tea Craft blacks, herbals and whites.
The lunch and dinner menus list seasonal share plates. Add big cuts of meat such as barbequed beef ribs, roasted pork loin and grilled mulloway to greens, beans and in-betweens. Corn fritters and chipotle, smoked chilli corn or beetroot and cabbage slaw with peach and lemon yoghurt is a star dish already.
Months of whisky testing has paid off. There is also a small but considered wine list that shows off favourites from around the world. The General Store also sells jams, relishes, pickles, salts, marinades, sauces and take-home meals that are easy to prepare.
We do not seek or accept payment from the cafes, restaurants, bars and shops listed in the Directory – inclusion is at our discretion. Venue profiles are written by independent freelancers paid by Broadsheet.
