Flamingos and Dingos
Just off the Barrenjoey Road main strip in Newport sits Flamingos and Dingos cafe. Emmanuel Hastings and Jake Bulgin are behind the bar making coffee and breakfast while customers find a seat at tables out the front, at the window, or on the inside bench.
Dingos and Flamingos faces north, so there is usually a spot in the sun. If not, the smell of salt from the beach just metres away is certainly refreshing. The atmosphere of the cafe is an informal cool. Locals stop off with their surfboards for an espresso and the baristas chat with customers that have come to the beaches for a Sunday wind-down.
The coffee is Single Origin roasters, ordered with a breakfast of avocado on toast or a bacon-and-egg roll. Fifty per cent of all the profits from Flamingos and Dingos goes to Misfit Aid.
Outside of the usual cafe hours, burgers are served from 7pm on a Friday night, and customers can BYO to go with it.
With live music from time to time, it’s a great place to be when the Newport strip is a little quiet on a Friday.
