Fable Coffee Sydney
Owner and chef Phil Ocampo combines the best ingredients he can find for the menu at Fable Coffee. Husband-and-wife team (Ocampo runs it with wife Jessica Shaw) previously had an organic Mexican street food stall at Kirribilli and Potts Point markets, and learned the stories of every producer they source from.
The rosti with rainbow trout has swirls of colour from the avocado, confit tomato, house-made green pepper sauce, Pepe Saya crème fraiche and ground pistachio. The vegan Blessed Morning Bowl with organic quinoa, seeds, winter leaves, grated apple, broccoli, sprouts and house-made heirloom beetroot puree is picture-perfect. The pretty plating style that proved popular with Instagrammers at their previous cafe in Chippendale, Something for Jess, is on the tables here too.
Simple industrial and Scandinavian style replaces the mismatched furniture and hygge interiors of Something for Jess. At Fable, Shaw’s design background shows through the textures of steel, exposed brickwork and hand-thrown ceramics. Light floods the space through a wall of windows, which opens onto the pavement.
The single-origin coffee is roasted at Collective Roasting Solutions in Enmore. Teas by Tea Craft, the house-brewed ginger beer or fresh juices are also good options. Check out their “staples” range, including chai, honey, peanut butter and muesli, or buy some of the produce Ocampo brings from the market each day.
