Draft Coffee Roasters
David Wu is mad about coffee, and it was his constant search for the best-tasting brew that led him to open Draft Coffee Roasters in 2016 with wife Louisa Su. The former Toby’s Estate barista always believed there could be better coffee out there, and roasting his own beans gives him full control of the process.
There’s no drinks menu on the wall, a deliberate move to encourage conversation between the customer and barista. The long communal benches are also designed with conversation in mind – Wu wants customers to socialise, as if in a bar.
The sun-filled, open space has light, streamlined wooden furniture, with coffee magazines and books on hand to thumb through. Patches of exposed original brickwork add character to the white walls.
Glass doors give you an open view of the roasting room behind the cafe, where Wu spends afternoons and evenings roasting beans sourced worldwide, with a focus on South America.
There are several sandwiches available made using sourdough from Brickfields Bakery, as well as sweets.
