With its striking yellow and white striped awning, Deli Bottega is one of Bondi’s best spots for people watching. Situated along the trendy Glenayr Avenue, this cosy joint has been a regular favourite among locals for its all-day dining since opening in October 2009.
While the interior is compact, it smartly fits both an open kitchen (complete with kitchenware hanging from the ceiling) and tables surrounding a black and white striped lounge beneath a mirrored wall. For a less congested experience, head to the benches outside where you’re guaranteed to spot suntanned locals with their dogs lounging around their feet.
The menu arrives folded to a postcard size and opens to reveal a large spectrum of breakfast and lunch plates. Coffee by Marrickville’s Mutch & Moore is full-bodied and a wide offering of Tea Craft teas is also listed. Start mornings off with sourdough from Grain Organic Bakery topped with avocado salsa, poached eggs, pesto and smoked salmon (all served on a wooden plank), or the Flying Scotsman Omelette with salami, Persian feta and roasted capsicum.
A selection of sandwiches (including a contender for this city’s best tuna sandwich, with roasted carrots and black olive tapenade) and salads are offered at lunch, while for dinner sharing plates are the way to go. For great value, check out the evening specials, including Tuesday night mussels and Thursday night bouillabaisse.
