“Come, sit, stay” is the playful maxim at Dachshund Coffee. North Shore natives Matt and Alex Williams run the cafe with their former schoolmate Rob Stein. It quickly established as a favourite among locals after opening in August 2014. These days, the place remains as popular as ever, particularly when the weekend rolls around.

An emphasis on provenance is at the heart of the cafe and the boys have a close relationship with Sasha Jade of Fat Poppy Coffee, who provides the beans for their brews. Simple, seasonally focused wholefoods are a priority and local food suppliers include Brickfields Bakery, Rainy Lane juices and Egganic eggs.

Although the menu changes with the seasons, the Reformed Avocado doesn’t look set to disappear anytime soon. It’s a fresh take on a cafe classic and features smashed avocado with homemade quinoa tabbouleh, vine-ripened tomatoes, Meredith Dairy goat’s chevre feta and crispy sage on brown rye toast. For the ultimate hangover cure, try the Brekkie Roll with an egg, grilled haloumi, greens, chipotle mayo and house relish. Add double-smoked bacon for the full experience.
