The guys behind Birdwood Cafe also run Double Roasters, a coffee wholesaler in Marrickville.
The range of coffee blends offered at Birdwood is extensive. Flight Path, Double Roasters’ house blend (named such because the warehouse is under a flight path), is used for milk-based coffees. There are also rotating single origins every week for black coffees, and two or three single origins each day.
The food menu includes house-cured ocean trout with minted peas and ricotta, and a pork-belly sandwich done with house-made kimchi and aioli. The croque monsieur of three cheeses, béchamel sauce and ham off the bone is also a winner.
The fit-out involves an indoor-outdoor poured-concrete bench, Richard Willing LED lighting, American oak benches, succulents and a simple groove-board menu.
