Best Bagel Co bakes its NYC-style bagels daily. Other than a little extra sourdough starter, the recipe here is true to the NYC ideal, including the all-important process of boiling before baking, giving that signature bagel chew and glossy exterior.

The menu features six regular filling options, plus a monthly special in collaboration with local chefs and other hospitality figures. (Past highlights include Simon Toohey from Masterchef and Martin Hudak from cocktail bar Maybe Sammy.)

For something savoury, order the TBC (turkey, cranberry and brie) or the Everything Bagel with house-made lemon and dill cream cheese and fresh tomato. Other options might include A Life Aquatic (sustainably sourced smoked salmon, cream cheese, tomato and onion) and a Reuben bagel made with grass-fed Wagyu pastrami.

Bagels can be purchased by the half-dozen alongside schmears (spreads) such as cream cheese in plain, jalapeno or blueberry flavours. Everything is sold in recyclable, biodegradable or compostable packaging.

Coffee comes from Mecca, and there are non-alcoholic drinks including Heaps Normal beer and Liberty kombucha.

This wholesome shop has huge windows opening up to the plaza with pink- umbrella-shaded benches outside. A mezzanine level offers seating, while coffees are poured behind the terrazzo counter.
