Beachside living and healthy eating go hand-in-hand at this corner cafe. Owners Leanne Thomas, Michael Meates and Peter Woods have between them a wealth of hospitality, coffee and nutrition experience. They have done everything from running restaurants to hosting food and nutrition talks. This means everything on the menu at Bent Fork is slanted toward being good for you, without sacrificing flavour.
The menu includes house-roasted almond granola, green pikelets with spirulina and a whitebait omelette. Vegan and raw options include killer sweets by Thomas, such as raw mint slice and raw lamingtons. You’ll still find dishes such as chicken burgers or long-bone lamb cutlets on the menu, but a healthy approach has been taken even with these.
The menu tells us to exercise daily, worry less, dance more and love often, and it certainly gets you in the mood for cold-pressed juices from Botanica, a list of superblend drinks from the vitamino (berries, orange, camu, goji and lime), to chocomo (banana, raw cacao, maca, cinnamon and almond milk). You can even pick up a bag of green-wheat freekeh to take home after your lunch. Coffee is the Superior blend from Campos with Cup of Excellence award-winning cold brew on offer, served up under lightshades made out of bent forks. There’s a lot of fun to be had here and always something new to watch out for (from cooking classes to raw crème eggs for Easter). And from Wednesday to Sunday happy hour kicks off from 3pm.
