With the staff’s trendy cuts and slick aprons, it’s easy to mistake Castle Hill’s The Baron for an inner city haunt. Outside, gold type proclaims ‘The Baron – Your Local’, making it clear that this place is here to stay. Step inside to wooden plank window benches, exposed steel, bare concrete walls, industrial lights and metal chairs around a restored communal table.
Local suppliers are celebrated here, with nearby Kellyville Farm free range eggs, Single Origin coffee, Sonoma bread, Luke Avenue cookies, Farmer Jo muesli and Tea Craft tea. The all-day menu highlights simplicity and creativity. The breakfast plate boasts smoked ocean trout, avocado, cherry tomatoes, soft boiled egg and Persian fetta with sourdough, while the popular bacon and egg roll features house-made aioli and tomato relish among double smoked bacon, eggs and avocado.
Small bites include the ‘three little pigs’ brioche sliders with three filling types: ‘surfing pig’ (double smoked ham with grilled pineapple and mustard dressing); ‘the king’ (crunchy peanut butter, double smoked bacon and aioli) and ‘little pig’ (slow braised bourbon and Coke pork with creamy red cabbage slaw). Best enjoyed with the salted caramel shake.
