Johnny Gio's is the brother brand to the popular Society Pizzeria. The small 25-seater space specialises in pizzas with crispy bases, delivered with a Sicilian twist.
Compared to Society Pizzeria which offers a more complete restaurant experience, Johnny Gio's has an old style, fast-paced environment that is well suited to customers looking to takeaway. The space was designed to replicate a New York-Italian neighbourhood pizza joint. When you walk inside, a large tiled woodfired oven is in full view and the white walls are covered with posters.
On the pizza menu there’s the F’n Boss (tomato, chilli, capsicum, Italian sausage and salted ricotta), the Ma-ma’s Meatballs (tomato, house-made meatballs and parmesan) and the Zaza (porcini mushroom, smoked scarmoza, garlic and parmesan). There’s also mafaldine (long ribbon-shaped pasta) with a six-hour bolognaise ragu; marinara-braised meatballs served with oven-roasted garlic bread; and a deliciously melty macaroni in three cheeses: fior di latte, mozzarella and pecorino. For drinks, Gio’s is serving pre-batched Aperol spritzes and Negronis.
