BL Burgers is the takeaway offshoot of cult burger destination Bar Luca. Owners James and Sarah Robbins first expanded to Darlinghurst before taking over the top floor of the pumping Beach Road Hotel for this second instalment.

The menu features the same weekly classics as those at the sister stores, such as the 200-gram Wagyu patty with streaky bacon, American cheese, tomato, lettuce and pickles; and a chickpea and kumara version. But there are also some exclusives: the PB&J and the Blame of Thrones – Wagyu patty, cheddar, house-smoked duck bacon, sweet potato poutine and smoked-maple aioli.

The famous Blame Canada dessert collaboration with Paper Street Ice Cream is also available. That’s smoked-beef caramel swirl, maple-marshmallow fluff, maple bacon, parmesan and dark chocolate.

The large alfresco area was designed by Luchetti Krelle. It features polished concrete floors, timber panelling, cane furniture and leather banquettes to give the space a relaxed beachy vibe. With much more seating than the Darlo site, Bondi is less takeaway and more restaurant and bar – an idea enhanced by three beer taps and a wall of spirits.
