From 1997 Harrys Espresso was a reliable go-to for Bondi residents. It retired in 2015, when the eponymous Harry Lambropoulos and business partner Chris Karvelas acquired the laundromat next door, rebranding the whole site as Harrys Bar & Dining.

When Lambropoulos and Karvelas first started, they were at a different stage in their lives. After both having kids, they recognised the importance of a family-friendly space and a menu with plenty of sugar-, gluten- and dairy-free options.

Chef Bryan O’Callaghan plates up cider-cured ocean trout served with coddled eggs, shaved fennel and ruby grapefruit; blueberry and ricotta hotcakes with organic maple; and quinoa and feta fritters on fattoush salad with house-made labneh and hazelnut dukkah. Lunch includes burgers and salads.

Refresh post-swim with kombucha, house-made ginger beer, fresh smoothies and coffee made using the cold-drip or V60 filter methods.

If you’re after espresso, look to the striking Synesso machine, which is tinted aqua to match the fit-out by Tina Cha at Guru Projects. She’s also behind the honeycomb tile work, raw-brick finishes and The Kiosk, a simple solution to the takeaway crowd.
