Vermuteria is a modern day homage to old-school European wine and aperitivo bars courtesy of Spanton Hospitality, the same team behind the revival of iconic Potts Point cafe Piccolo Bar down the road.

It’s a similar vibe here, but with a much bigger offering. Taking over the former site of Cafe Hernandez, a 24-hour Spanish Cafe that lived at the site for 50 years, Vermuteria honours its predecessor with a focus on all things Spanish – predominately sherry and vermouth. Two house blends of the latter are poured directly from barrels behind the bar, where you can also grab ice-cold Estrella Damm beer on tap.

The site was also once home to a Polish deli until 1970, and fittingly there's a small Euro-style deli out back where you can grab rare sherries and vermouths, pickles, vinegar, bartending books and more.

The deli vibe carries over to the bar menu. Think tinned seafood, cold cuts by LP’s Quality Meats and cheeses by local cheesemonger Penny’s Cheese Shop.
