The Magpie is an ’80s sports bar fantasy from the team behind top Sydney venues Earl’s Juke Joint, Jacoby’s and The Cliff Dive. It’s also a companion to neighbouring late-night bar The Trocadero Room, and a place where you can hang out before or after a gig, or pull up during the day and catch sports on-demand.

Paying homage to the classic pubs of the inner west and the UK, The Magpie's nostalgic fit-out includes standard-issue pub carpeting, white walls and tiling. Wherever there isn’t a TV screen, there are signed images of sporting icons from across codes and disciplines lining the walls.

The cocktail list is modelled after a typical pub’s range, and the Bloody Mary and the Irish Coffee are highlights. Aside from Guinness, the six beer taps are focused on local breweries including The Grifter Brewing Co in Marrickville, who have brewed a collaboration beer called Old Magpie, a malt-driven dark ale based off Toohey’s Old. Wines are mainly Aussie and natural – but burgundy and chablis are also possibilities.

There’s no kitchen at The Magpie, but you can order food from the neighbouring chicken shop via the bar staff. As for sports? The Magpie plays it all. NRL, UFC the Superbowl, the Olympics – you name it. Swoop in for a good time.
