GOODGOD Small Club
Features
GOODGOD late night dance-ateria is the brainchild of two of Sydney’s most lovable bar owners – Hana Shimada and Jimmy Singline – this venue has it all. Home to music lovers and bar goers alike, this multi faceted bolt-hole has seen the likes of local Aussie favourites Seekae, Canyons, Eddy Current Suppression Ring, Lanie Lane and Cloud Control all pass through its doors. And when you look at the international line-up – which includes Diplo, The Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Spank Rock, A-Trak, De La Soul and 2 Many DJs – you come to understand that this place has some serious credentials.
Situated in the heart of Sydney’s Spanish Quarter, this once forgotten Spanish restaurant has been completely transformed into a colourful, vibrant bar where the cocktails flow, the palm trees sway and it eternally feels like summer. Once you head off the street down into the basement, you find yourself in a 1950s Havana style tropical oasis. Vibrant lights, plants and plant sculptures (by Hana Shimada) add to the 1950s Cuban bar feel, as does the shuttered DJ booth and creamy electric nougat bar.
Head further down through this cavernous venue – past the dark, cosy booths and the ever popular diner/cantina The DIP (which serves little late night delicious American Style snacks) – to the Small Club. With its timber dance-floor, rustic bar and banging sound system, this dark, intimate, cave-like space is the perfect place to make some shapes.
Enter at a reasonable hour and leave when the sun comes up – GOODGOD gives good times, all night and all year round.
