The Barley’s front bar feels as comfortable as your own lounge room. Its coin-operated jukebox moves – crowd-depending – between a range of mid-noughties, indie rock, while a projector splashes the film clip across a screen. The two pool tables are free to play on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.

It’d be a short walk to any of the local breweries on tap, but the Barley pours them all under one roof. The humble Resch’s tap keeps it real, but you can always expect Young Henrys, The Grifter Brewing Co, and Willie The Boatman as mainstays. There’s also plenty of brews to buy from the pub’s modest bottle shop.

The modern-chic bistro is bright, spacious and family-friendly and the menu’s classic pub fare is plenty generous. The herb-crumbed schnitzel is a prime example – it’s one of the biggest birds you’ll find for the price.

You’ll always find punters eating their meals out in the jungle of a beer garden, regardless of the weather – its leafy ferns, wisteria and hibiscus make this one of the area’s best.
