The Chippo Hotel is one of Sydney’s enduring live music pubs, with an intimate stage in the basement of the venue that’s primed for any genre, as well as comedy. And while many of the inner-city’s neighbourhood boozers have been fancified beyond recognition, The Chippo’s charm lies in its cool community vibe, which is best experienced in the astroturfed beer garden on a Saturday arvo.

The pub, which was once home to an American-inspired burger diner, completely flipped the script with the addition of Mama B’s, an entirely vegan bistro serving riffs on pub-grub classics like burgers, pies and schnitzels. There’s even a Sunday roast with all the trimmings. The hot tip is to come for dinner on a weeknight and catch one of the specials, which usually sit around the $15 mark.
