Scottish craft-beer giant Brewdog is coming to Sydney. The juggernaut brewer – which was founded in 2007 and now has more than 100 bars around the world – will launch in an old locomotive workshop right in time for summer.

Brewdog Sydney is the brand’s fourth Australian venue to be announced – a taproom and brewery opened in Brisbane in 2019, and a Brisbane Brewdog hotel is in the works, as is a Melbourne bar and beer garden in a former prison. The Melbourne and Sydney venues are the first to launch as part of a partnership between Brewdog and Australian Venue Co (AVC), a hospitality group that operates more than 180 venues across Australia, including The Winery, Cargo and Bungalow 8 in Sydney.

The $3.2 million taproom and bar in South Eveleigh will have space for 720 punters inside and a further 190 outside, with a sprawling indoor dining space, a bar and a massive beer garden. Forty brews will be on tap, including Brewdog’s own draught beers, guest tap takeovers and collaborations with local breweries. A range of alcohol-free options will be available, as well as spirits, wines, cocktails and ciders.

Half the menu at Brewdog South Eveleigh will be plant-based. Expect burgers, wings and pizzas. The architects leading the development of the workshop, Studio Y, have designed the brew house around original workshop machinery on display. Brewdog South Eveleigh will join other landmark venues in the precinct, including Kylie Kwong’s Lucky Kwong and Matt Whiley’s Re– bar.

Brewdog South Eveleigh is slated to open at Bays 1 & 2, Locomotive Workshop, 2 Locomotive Street, South Eveleigh in summer 2022.
