The ArtHouse Hotel
Everything about The ArtHouse Hotel is big. With four bars and a restaurant, this popular CBD watering hole caters for everything from a quick after-work drink to corporate functions, weddings and Saturday nights that end when the sun rises. The cavernous building is heritage listed and features original 19th century architecture. Previously home to the School of Arts, today The ArtHouse also regularly hosts life drawing classes, art exhibitions, cabaret nights and photography workshops.
There are food and drink specials all week, plus lunch and dinner menus and bar food, if a little run of the mill. Think crispy-fried squid, crumbed chicken wings or goat’s cheese arancini. You’ll find all the standard beers and spirits here, plus a different wine list in each bar featuring mostly Australian drops – many available by the glass.
For something a little stiffer, ask the bar staff to create one of their well-priced cocktails – perhaps the Yellow Submarine with gin, butterscotch schnapps and lemon butter, or a Suzie Q with rum, elderflower and honeycomb.
If cosy and intimate is your thing, The ArtHouse Hotel is probably not for you, but it seems to have something for just about everyone else.
