Shirt Bar is what Mad Men dreams are made of. The three elements that make this a winner with city-dwelling gents are shirts, coffee and dark spirits.
The concept store (opened in 2011) is the brainchild of husband and wife Justin and Louka Marmot, and long-time friend Adam Hofbauer. Justin’s family has a shirt-making business, Louka worked in the fashion industry as a stylist and shirt tailor, and Hofbauer, affectionately known as the “coffee maestro”, has developed the house blend, F.A.T – For All Things.
The watering-hole-shirt-store hybrid has unpretentious charm. The timber, metal and wired shelves above the bar are stocked with bottles, while the shirts, also shelved, are lined up like books in a cafe.
Shirt Bar stocks a range of shirts, from classic European-chic with the Marmot family’s own Ganton shirts, to something more fitted and colourful, such as the Jensen collection. For the ladies, Louka has created an exclusive in-store range, Louka + Sabina, which caters for the elegant, professional woman.
For the ultimate tailor-made experience there is a bespoke option, which lets you dream up your ideal shirt while enjoying a whisky. If whisky isn’t your drink, the bar has beer, wine and cocktail specials – the espresso martini being a noteworthy option made with the house-blend coffee.
