Sydney… is Alan Walsh’s second solo show at The Fox Hole Small Bar, following the highly successful The Travels of Vivienne in 2012. The Travels of Vivienne was a series of stylised posters depicting the travels of a fictional woman across Europe in the 1930s, its glamour and simplicity attracting the attention of Vogue Living and Harper’s Bazaar.
Now, in a similar 1930s style of glamorous bright colours and graphic stylisation, Walsh’s character Vivienne takes on Sydney, rendering its beaches and suburbs from Bondi to Palm Beach. Expect sunglasses, vivid colours, big hats and cocktails by the sea – the summer holiday we all dream of.
“I’ve been in Sydney nine years now and I wanted to do something that was a bit more personal,” explains Walsh. “Travels of Vivienne were places that I’d travelled, but Sydney’s got a big place in my heart.
“They were all places that have made me happy, that have that elegance and style. Sydney is a very glamorous city and I wanted to portray that.”
Each poster is limited to 150 – $100 unframed and $250 framed.
Sydney… opens January 24 and runs until March at The Fox Hole Small Bar
