Approaching the grey-painted hulk of this converted factory, the first things you notice are low gabion walls made with wire and sandstone rubble. Immediately you know that this is no ordinary interiors store.

Russell Koskela and Sasha Titchkosky started working together 12 years back, but it was just two weeks ago that their original vision finally came together when their newest venture opened its doors in Rosebery.

In this former industrial shell, they have gathered together their large range of modern furniture in room settings that allow plenty of space to wander. It’s all designed by them and made in Australia from recycled timbers and all items carry a 10-year warranty. You will find laminated timber tables and benches, soft modular sofas and chairs and even a range of furniture designed for children.

Complementing the furniture is a collection of everything for the home, from scrubbing brushes to bed linen, either made especially for Koskela or sourced from other Australian manufacturers who share the couple’s philosophy of beautiful sustainability.

Amongst our favourites are gorgeous timber brooms and brushes, a great range of enamelware, wonderful placemats from the Elcho Island Arts Cooperative and rugs from Loom. You will also find the ubiquitous candles, but these ones are the lovely Quiescence range from Tasmania. Particularly striking for their form, texture and colour are the lampshades woven by the women from Arnhem Land.

Whether you are starting out furnishing your first apartment, styling that beach house up the coast or fitting out a commercial office space, the people at Koskela can help you custom your exact requirements – the unique advantage of manufacturing the products here at home.

And when the shopping is done, you can relax in the indoor/outdoor café, sipping tea or something stronger and nibbling on a tasty snack from the daily blackboard menu.
