You’d be hard pressed to find a furniture store with better views than Curious Grace in Mosman. Located in an old army barracks on Middle Head Road , the newly opened shop overlooks Sydney Harbour and is surrounded by a national park.
This is Sydney’s first taste of Curious Grace, which has two stores in Melbourne. “It’s an unusual destination but we felt confident that our customers would come to us,” says creative director, Anna Curnuck. “They’ve already come from all over Sydney to visit us. They’ve been so supportive.”
Surrounded by lush ferns, the store is just as inviting, filled with beautifully styled soft textiles, homewares, art, lighting and furniture. Curnuck describes the range as “relaxed and sophisticated with a Scandinavian influence … clean lines and contemporary from Danish, Swedish, Belgian and Australian designers”. Trending in store right now is the Industrial M collection, made with attention to detail and quality materials. The brand’s curation of chairs, stools, bench seats and sideboards adds a “refined industrial edge” to interior spaces, Curnuck says.
Also popular are the new Normann Copenhagen Amp lamps by Danish designer Simon Legald. The hanging lights in transparent glass shades reveal an intricate bulb, inspired by tube amplifiers from the 1960s. Other brands on offer include Karpenter Collection, Sean Dix, Jakob Berg and the Ethnicraft Collection. “You’ve got your high-end stores and stores that sell replica furniture but nowhere in between,” says Curnuck. “We are affordable and high quality with 100 per cent original designs.”
