As the sun sets over a lazy Monday evening in Sydney, there are few better ways to celebrate the end of the first day of the working week than with a low-key beer at the pub. Throw in a free screening of a cult classic movie and you have an ideally relaxed start to the week. The Beresford Hotel has come to the party over summer with its series of Monday Movie Nights. Sealing the deal is Heineken for $5 and pasta dishes from the hotel’s Italian trattoria at $15 a piece.

Belying the venue’s unassuming sfaçade, the outdoor space is a real gem – buzzing yet blessed with a distinctly beachy feel. They’re on island time here it seems, with movies kicking off each Monday evening as the sun goes down.

Films screening run the gamut from art house classics to crowd-pleasing musicals and – to coincide with Movember – a month of films featuring the greatest moustaches to ever grace a silver screen, from Richard Roundtree’s badass mo in Blaxploitation classic Shaft to Jean Dujardin’s dandyish facial hair in French masterpiece The Artist. Other highlights include evergreen children’s film The Goonies, the game-changing blockbuster Jaws and the essential Casablanca.

Summer Movie Nights run every Monday until March 2013 at the Beresford Hotel.
