There’s something about Orazio D’Elia, our cover star for this issue. The young chef, responsible for reminding Maurice Terzini why he loves Italian food in the first place, has injected more than a pinch of la dolce vita into Sydney’s dining scene with Da Orazio Pizza + Porchetta. D’Elia’s unabashed love for good food and the people who work and eat in restaurants reminded us, too, of what eating out’s really about.

It’s not all about Italy in this issue, though. We head to India (via Surry Hills) to discover the gold-flecked, colourful world of Indian sweets and taste our way through a few sugary examples. Korea and Mexico come together on the same plate at the newly opened Ko & Co and we break down exactly how this fusion of two wildly different cuisines came about. Over in South East Asia, we visit two brothers who are cooking Mexican food in Singapore – impressing the locals in the process.

As Sydney’s beaches cool off over winter, there’s plenty of room for foraging for food along the coast. Pinbone’s Mike Eggert shows us how and why we should try it. We also cosy up in bed with a few pairs of winter pyjamas we’re loving this season.

Though the New South Wales lockout laws look like they’re here to stay – for the moment anyway – there’s still plenty of late-night mischief to be had in Sydney.
