Crown Street in Surry Hills is one of Sydney’s most popular shopping strips. From The Standard Store in the south to Mud Australia in the north, Crown Street is a buzzing stretch of cafes, bars, restaurants and retailers.

Here are five shops to help you knock over your Christmas shopping this year.

Title Store
The ethos of Title Store, a book and music shop on Crown Street, is summed up perfectly on its website: Title is not about what’s new, it’s about what’s good. That includes a large collection of vinyl – from the A Star Is Born soundtrack to the Beatles’ White Album – as well as audio and hi-fi equipment, DVDs and a wide range of books, including children’s literature, memoir, fiction and non-fiction. Stash a limited-edition vinyl record or a coffee-table book under the Christmas tree for the music-loving or bookish type in your life.

Stocked menswear and womenswear brands include Romance Was Born, Weathered, and Scotch and Soda, while the homewares range includes brands such as Missoni Home, HK Living and Gascoigne & King. Find the perfect Christmas present for each recipient on your list, such as Tom Dixon’s Tank Whiskey Glasses Set, or a pair of Mix Granite Mythical Tassel Earrings.

Founded by a local architect and a former Google exec, Reddie is a furniture brand that fuses globalisation with the craft of handmade. Blending ultra-contemporary, sharp-lined design and the comfort of mid-century modern, Reddie furniture is manufactured by a crew of fifth-generation woodworkers from Central Java, who are trained in the traditional Danish way. The results speak for themselves: elegant stools, chairs and dining tables, striking bureaus and drawers, as well as bowls and spoons carved from the leftovers.

Mud Australia Surry Hills
The melding of functionality and quality that characterises Mud Australia’s porcelain products has earned the brand a global following. Founded in 1994, Mud is now one of Sydney’s most beloved brands, creating beautiful handcrafted ceramics in its Marrickville studio. In 2018, Mud opened its third retail outlet, a collaboration with gift shop and Newtown institution Pentimento Papeterie. The new Crown Street store stocks Mud’s signature porcelain range, including tableware in 20 colours. There’s also cutlery, linen and glassware and a selection of fine art, fashion and cookery books, alongside paper and stationery curated by Pentimento.
