We’re constantly amazed by the diversity of festivals that punctuate Sydney’s calendar. Like the plethora of creative events that take place during Vivid Sydney, Art & About will keep your eyes, ears and mouth engaged and interested.
Celebrating art and colour in amazing places, Art & About Sydney 2012 is a collaborative and interactive arts festival that sees artists and the general public use the city landscape as a canvas for creation and storytelling. Every incarnation of the event since 2002 has seen different partnerships with artists and organisations, bringing immense creativity and artistic projects to Sydney. From September 21 to October 21 the city’s streets, parks, squares and laneways will be reawakened through the talents of Australian and international artists, curators, cultural institutions and the people of Sydney.
Featuring a house that rains on the inside, ghosts of bohemian Sydney, eerie faces in the park, an urban jungle cube, free vintage bus rides and a heap more amazing installations, don’t miss the free opening night, Friday Night Live, co-presented by Sydney music label Modular. Jump on one of the city’s vintage buses for a guided tour of all the installations and late-night openings of major galleries, museums and cultural institutions.
We’re particularly excited about Modular’s month of music in unusual spaces. Keep your ear to the ground for a series of secret lunchtime gigs featuring Australia’s most buzz-worthy bands. Each week’s gig details will be revealed during the festival.
Art and About runs from September 21 to October 21.
