Behind the vibrant pink walls of the former Serendipity Ice Cream factory on Enmore Road lies a chic new space for inner-west boutique yoga and Pilates studio, Scout. It’s the sibling to the original St Peters studio, founded by Lucy Beaumont in 2019.
The 580 square-metre Marrickville warehouse has been reimagined as a multi-roomed, sunlit sanctuary to work out in. “It’s obviously a very iconic building. It had beautiful bones, like our St Peters location, big trusses, a really nice open plan with windows on all sides, which is quite hard to find in a warehouse,” Beaumont tells Broadsheet.
Beaumont designed the fit-out herself, having studied interior design (as well as clinical nutrition). The aesthetic stays true to the industrial context of the building (the original windows have been retained, and vintage door frames from Chippendale Restorations added) while creating a sense of modern calm using a white and terracotta palette and soft lighting. It’s layered with eye-catching features, such as a colourful contemporary artwork by Beaumont’s sister Elle Beaumont, and sculptural ceramic wall lights by Kate Carlisle and Milly Dent. Leafy olive trees and upholstered bench seating make a relaxed setting for before and after class.

SUBSCRIBE NOWThe studio’s rooms are sized up from St Peters (which fit 12), to allow 14 participants in each of the two reformer spaces, while there is a room that can be used for yoga, barre or mat Pilates, and another for private practice. With pitched roofs and mirrored walls, each room certainly feels spacious. The number of classes across the two studios will steadily grow to 300 per week to keep up with the inevitable demand. “We can fit more people, which is good, but I still want to keep it boutique and small,” says Beaumont, who’s always prioritised an inclusive, community-driven mindset at Scout.
A crossover of instructors at both studios, plus some new staff, mean you’ll have a seamless experience at Scout, regardless of location. “Both the studios work really well together, you can see they both have different personalities, but they’re still sisters.”
After class, head to the glamorous unisex bathroom featuring terrazzo tiles and a custom-made trough (Beaumont didn’t want the bathroom to be treated as an afterthought). Artful joinery and mirrors designed by Bondi Kitchens bring soft edges to the space. There are showers with Leif soap, curtained changing rooms, and a beauty bar with handy items like deodorant. Like St Peters, all equipment is provided, as well as coathangers, lockers and towels.
You can also get caffeinated and take away your picks from an expertly curated selection of pantry provisions from Scout’s on-site store, Goods. Inspired by Melbourne’s Morning Market, the small street-facing grocer and coffee bar sells Colombian single-origin and rotating single-varietal microlots by St Peters roaster New Paradigm, AP Bakery bread, and pastries by Tuga, plus Whole Beast Butchery ready-made family meals like lasagne and shepherd’s pie.
“It will evolve, we’ll see where it starts and get feedback from the local community on what they love,” says Beaumont.
