Right from its palm-flanked heritage façade, the four-star Grand Hotel more than lives up to its name.

Originally occupying an entire city block, the hotel was built as an expansive “coffee palace” during the height of Mildura’s temperance era in the late 1800s. Since being modernised from the 1920s onward, the photogenic landmark still bears many reminders of its rich history, including Art Deco function rooms and the remains of its original fountain in what’s now a rose garden.

History aside, the hotel’s prime location on Seventh Street remains a key selling point, situated just half a kilometre from the riverside Jaycee Park and Ornamental Lakes Park. Mildura Brewery is right next door, while the immediate hotel precinct also includes such restaurants as Stefano’s (located in the hotel’s former cellars) and Grand on Deakin, plus an on-site bar and lounge. A buffet breakfast is served in the lavish Chandelier Dining Room.

Close to 100 rooms are available in a range of different styles, extending all the way up to the romantic poolside suite. The fitness centre and seasonal outdoor pool are steady draws, as are the well-maintained courtyard and garden.

With its savvy balance of the historic and modern, Grand Hotel bridges Mildura’s past and present while ticking all the boxes for comfortable accommodation.
