Calabash Bay Lodge
Only accessible by water, Calabash Bay Lodge is on stunning Berowra Waters. To reach the house you drive to Berowra Waters Marina (it’s about 60 minutes from Sydney’s CBD), park your car and Wild Luxury’s concierge will meet you with a boat. Pile your belongings onboard and you’ll be escorted to the house via an easy 10-minute boat trip north along Berowra Creek, a tributary of the Hawkesbury River. If you want the rockstar treatment, you can always book a seaplane to get you there and back.
The modern lodge has four well-appointed bedrooms with cosy linen bedding, an open-plan living area and a lounge room (with a TV with all the streaming providers, mostly for free), as well as a kitchen with everything you will need and more: two ovens, two dishwashers, a wine fridge, stylish crockery, a sparkling-water tap – the list goes on.
Windows for days allow you to take in the river’s serenity. You can also watch the boats glide by from the immensely deep bathtub in the upstairs bathroom.
Then there are the outside things: a deck with lounges, a dining table and barbeque for entertaining, and a small yoga room with its own terrace (you can even have a local instructor stop by for a class). The property has its own private jetty and comes with an easy-to-use run-around boat you don’t need a license to operate. You can jet about exploring the coves and beaches – continuing north until the creek becomes the Hawkesbury River, or back to Berowra to look at the intriguing houses that line the water. The house also has kayaks, stand-up paddleboards and fishing rods.
The property’s concierge can arrange a private chef, massage therapist or tour guide as part of your stay. Wild Luxury also operates Crane Lodge at Palm Beach.
