The View From Here: Ella’s Rest, Torquay

It’s a natural and earthy aesthetic at Ella’s Rest. With wooden ceilings, walls and furnishings, there’s a sense of the surrounding environment both inside and outside the cabin.

An open-plan living area and kitchen spotlights the bush-clad dam through its floor-to-ceiling windows. There’s a full stovetop for cooking and a Nespresso machine for caffeinating.

The bedroom’s partition walls feature latticework wooden frames that nod to shoji, Japanese sliding screens , and custom-built window benches offer an idyllic spot to absorb the outside from within. In colder months, there’s a log burner indoors to keep things cosy. And when it’s warmer, the option for al fresco showers, dining and firepit stargazing is all too tempting.

The eco-conscious stay has been designed using recycled materials and runs off solar power and a tank of water. But unlike other cabins close to nature, the place feels like a modern home away from home with tons of character.

Groups of up to four people can enjoy going entirely off-grid. Switch out the scroll time for coastal rides on the cabin’s bikes – or late-night dancing to the welcome selection of vinyl.
