When it comes to the comforts of cosmopolitan dining, The Hungry Monkey’s got you covered.

White Horse Coffee served first thing in the morning? Check. Your appropriate low-GI breakfast, with avocado, cavolo nero, broccolini, pearl barley, sprouts, low-fat cottage cheese, rye sourdough, free-range eggs and activated seeds? Check. A Southern fried-chicken burger with red cabbage, Monterrey Jack cheese and jalepeños, with a cheeky schooner of Young Henrys? That’s a check.

For a more sophisticated evening, how about grilled perch from nearby Jamberoo, served with hand-cut desiree spuds, chipotle-lime salt and a glass of sparkling from Mudgee? Check and check.

The crew at Hungry Monkey will do all the things that keep Kiama fed and watered, any damn time of the day.

Owners Jack Alexander and Taylor Hudson wanted to bring a more modern kind of dining to the quaint seaside village. It’s a sweet little spot they’ve got, too; two shopfronts in a string of heritage terraces, where you can sit out on the porch or in the comfortably minimal dining room. Unsurprisingly, it’s always jumping with locals.
