Pony ExpressO is West Perth’s spot for good, strong origin coffee. Go down a laneway, through a car park, follow the signs and your faith will be rewarded. You can even take a packed lunch.
Coffee is king here – a double shot is standard and your espresso is topped up with textured milk exactly as you like, just say when. The beans vary weekly, with tasting notes provided and a world map on the wall charting the taste journey.
Owner Wendy Naude (who purchased the business from Puck Espresso 's Garrett Walsh) chats daily with customers about their preferences while she and her daughter work the espresso machine. The duo works closely with Crema Gourmet Coffee Roasters, also a local family business, to source the single origin beans.
Originally a horse stable, Pony ExpressO retains a hint of its working origins, with the old stable doors visible.
The food menu is limited to cookies, but look closely and you’ll notice regulars carrying in their own lunches. Inside there’s a long communal table with newspapers and outside under the verandah there are stools and heating in winter. Just like home, but with better coffee.
