Bar. Restaurant. Bottle shop. Cafe. This former printer in West Leederville is all this and more. More than two years in the making, Besk is an ambitious neighbourhood venue with a strong focus on boutique, primarily West Australian producers.
Co-owner and Mane Liquor’s resident booze hound Elliott Moore is in charge of the drink offering that includes an expansive inventory of boutique beer, wine and spirits that, similar to Wines of While, Lalla Rookh Wine Store and Petition Wine Bar & Merchant, are available for drink in-house enjoyment, and the collaborative drinks offered at the bar: Jo Perry, 2016 Young Gun of Wine winner and owner of Margaret River’s Dormilona, is behind Besk’s house wines while local brewers rotate through the “Besk Friends” guest beer.
Pub comfort is the name of the food game – think fish and chips, daily roasts, rotating empanadas – but chef Gerard Mitchell is eschewing faceless, generic produce and sourcing ingredients from trusted farmers such as grass-fed beef from Blackwood Valley Beef, seafood from Fins and free-range chickens from Wagin Duck & Game.
Education and making-ends-with-friends are also a big part of the Besk story and the venue will offer a rigorous program of guest chef and maker events.
