Harvest Espresso
Roland and Catherine Tan's Harvest Espresso is an unlikely find among the caryards of Albany Highway, but on weekends there’s a queue.
Catherine’s interior-design background has imparted a natural and textured aesthetic to the compact space. Edison bulbs hang down over an ivory Ruggero espresso machine kept manically busy with a Vittoria blend.
Across the bench is a range of croissants, muffins and moreish mini banana loaves, with raw and gluten-free goods supplied by Perth success story Raw by Chris.
The all-day menu’s seasonal dishes are where the kitchen really kicks into gear. Changing it up every three months, Roland and his kitchen take advantage of in-season produce, creative techniques and unusual ingredients to invent a different take on brunch.
Past favourites have included grilled squid with morcilla (blood sausage) and in-house smoked salmon with leek ash and butter lettuce jus. Sweet tooths will be attracted to the waffles with jasmine cream and bergamot gel.
Garnished with flowers and micro herbs, the restaurant-style plates are gorgeous, with the brunching masses often taking a snap for Instagram before digging in.
