With The Classroom and Lucky Chan’s under their belts, Andrew and Sasha Bennett could have sat back and taken it easy, most probably with a well-slung beverage in hand. But the restless pair instead chose to venture into the craft-beer world.

The Dutch Trading Co is a play on Sasha’s homeland and the story of the Dutch East India Company, which ventured all around world bringing back varied riches. The duo took this inspiration and applied it to beer, with the addition of a few clogs as visual cues and more than 50,000 bottle caps laid in the floor.

There are 18 tap beers, with no compromise on being locked into contracts with the macro brewers. With a broad approach to styles, it’s the beer bar that many a Perth beer geek has dreamed of, complete with tap offerings chalked high up the wall and more than 100 bottles to drink in or take out.

For the truly serious, there’s the “Dutch rudder”, a giant paddle containing two tasting pours of every beer, or 36 in total.

The food sticks to the Dutch theme, if a little vaguely. You’ll find solid beer bites, such as a beef cheek bitterballen (meatballs), wings, hotdogs and fries.
